It came down to a choice of 3 for this topic, one of my choices would have been the Palais Royal in Madrid, which was spectacularly opulent. Even that didn't blow my mind quite as much as the interior of the Duomo in Pisa. Right next to the Leaning Tower, it's just incredible. Really high, ornately frescoed ceilings, arches, intricate stonework, marble, it's just amazing. Extravagant and expensive!
Breathtaking still.
I couldn't let this theme go past without a nod to my new camera, my baby. My old, beloved camera met an untimely death, thanks to an incident involving my 7yr old son "helpfully" taking said camera upstairs. And dropping it. The "clunk" sound was heartbreaking, I knew it was a goner. I hadn't budgeted for a new one, but got an amazing deal on my new love. Still feels very much an extravagance in these economically hard times.
Beautifully extravagance! We didn't have time to go inside Duomo while we were there. We drove there from Assisi as a day trip and made other stops on the way back. Thank you for showing it to me! Great shot! http://lindalovestostitch.multiply.com/journal/item/45
Never got to Assisi, I hear it's a beautiful spot! What amused me about Pisa was the amazing number of tourists trying to get photos looking like they were leaning against/holding up the tower itself.

I believe I saw some people doing the same thing! Assisi was my favorite place in Italy! We stayed in an apartment in a families home. They we so nice to us and our granddaughter.
I love the beautiful painting. Amazing. I know what you mean by it being extravagant to spend money on a new camera, it took me months to afford another one.
beautiful , lovely picture... I love being able to sit here in my easy chair and view the world at my finger tips.. at other's extravagance. Have fun with your new camera.
Viv, I hate places that won't let you take pics! Telling you not to use flash is one thing but to outlaw cameras completely really winds me up. You have a lovely camera and it takes amazing pics!

I am more than happy to pay extra for a permit, and most places i've been have either had that option or freely allowed photography, but i was disappointed to pay almost £10 for entrance to st pauls cathedral and not be allowed to take photos, in fact it brought tears to my eyes and my hand was itching to get my camera out. i'm pretty sure that westminster abbey bans photography too.
Gorgeous shot :) I too felt the same when I dropped my camera & it no longer worked. Not is all lost my hubby bought me a new one for christmas its ace, I'm not dropping this one :)
